Editorial Inquiries

Eclectic Horseman  welcomes your submissions concerning the pursuit of refined and thoughtful horsemanship. The editor is always open to new sources of information as long as said sources have an established, positive position in the horsemanship community. The horsemanship community can be a handful of cowboys out on the wagon in Nevada or a group of clinic participants in Malibu, California — use your imagination — but remember that the definition of eclectic mandates that we will accept "only the best."

ImageOur magazine recognizes that it's readers lead busy lives and appreciate not having to filter out the fluff from the substance by only publishing articles that have true merit. Please read a few copies of Eclectic Horseman  before approaching us with article queries.  Submissions that show a lack of familiarity with the magazine and the community it serves will not be taken seriously. (For example: articles on show clipping your horse, stall toys or fitting your mechanical hackamore obviously will end up in the round-file.)

Please submit your query or article in print format. Electronic submission of manuscripts is highly discouraged, unless you are an established contributor.

Be sure that your name and a page number appear on each page of your submission.  Eclectic Horseman  is not responsible for materials submitted on speculation, and they will not be returned to you without sufficient pre-paid postage and packaging. We do our best to respond to unsolicited submissions within four months, but in some cases it may take longer. Please understand that we are swamped with inquiries, and a longer wait may be no reflection on the quality of your submission.

ImageEclectic Horseman  is published bimonthly. Articles average 750 words per page, depending on the number of photos,  and submissions generally  range from 1-4 pages. Our lead time is typically six to nine months. We pay $100 a page including photographs. We purchase first North American serial rights, as well as  nonexclusive permanent web rights for our electronic article archive.

Manuscripts and queries should be addressed to Emily Kitching, PO BOX 174, Elbert, CO 80106.

Take care,

Emily Kitching, Editor
